Opening Day: SUNDAY 3/14 noon to 2PM

Opening Day ceremonies have been postponed to Sunday, March 14 at South Weddington Park. The ceremony will officially begin at noon. Plan to arrive early in order to secure parking and and find a comfortable spot in the park. The weather promises to be beautiful this weekend. Plan to spend a lazy afternoon in the park.

IMPORTANT: ALL Parking will be in the MTA Parking lot -- even for the morning game families.  No exceptions will be made. Please plan accordingly and be respectful to our neighbors and park legally. Bring your blankets and cameras -- Hot food will be available for sale as well as Toluca spirit wear!  Players should arrive in uniform and line up against the fence where their team name will be posted.  All the teams will be announced onto the field including our four year old's. If you should have any questions, please contact your team parent.

Our Thoughts are with the Orozco Family

UPDATED FEBRUARY 22, 2010.  Sam Orozco, Jr. is a 9-year old Toluca Mustang Player.  As some of you already know, Sammy suffered severe injuries in a car accident just before Christmas Day, when the car he was riding in with his family flipped 8 times on a highway in Mexico.  Sammy was ejected from the car and was left critically injured with a crushed leg and severe head injuries.

Sammy spent about a month in intensive care at a hospital in Sonora, Mexico and a few weeks ago he was transported to Children’s Hospital in Hollywood.  Doctors are not able to say for sure what his long term prognosis for recovery will be. He is unable to talk and barely able to communicate by squeezing a hand.  He had yet more surgeries last week on parts of his brain and had his shattered leg reset.  His family remains upbeat, but he is still in serious condition and unfortunately will require medical attention for the foreseeable future.

Needless to say, the Orozco family is facing an incredibly difficult time and the transportation and medical expenses are mounting.  Toluca Baseball has started a fund in Sammy’s name to be used to help the Orozco family defray the cost of his medical expenses in Mexico.  Right now, we are trying to raise $8,500 for the family to pay-off the cost of air ambulance from Mexico.

Please consider opening your hearts and helping the Orozco family by making a donation today.  Donations are not tax deductible, but you can all say you helped get Sammy back home to his family and on the road to his recovery. Checks should be made payable to “Samuel Orozco, Jr.” and mailed to the league’s mailbox at: Toluca Baseball, P.O. Box 2171, Toluca Lake, CA 91610.

It is our hope that with the help of all of his extended baseball family from Toluca Baseball that Sammy can recover from this terrible ordeal and we can see him back on the field at some point in time in the near future.

Thanks in advance for your consideration and please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Cooperstown Fundraisers

Each summer, two teams of 12 year old Toluca players head to New York to participate in a week-long baseball tournament in the hometown of the Baseball Hall of Fame. While the league helps administer this annual activity, the cost is borne by the players’ families.  In order to offset the not insignificant expense, fundraisers of all types are created by the families. Please follow this link to see the current fundraisers on offer from the Cooperstown bound teams.

Closing Day changed: June 12th 2010

Closing Day Ceremonies have been changed to Saturday, June 12th, 2010. Championship games will be played that morning followed by ceremonies as South Weddington Park.

Toluca Baseball, a competitive youth baseball league, founded in 1952, is the oldest youth baseball league in Southern California’s San Fernando Valley region. Toluca Baseball, affiliated with PONY baseball, offers a Spring and a Fall season for children from 5 to 14 years old.
